More Than 150 Brownsville Recycling Bins Stolen
A pilot recycling project in South Texas has been hampered by the removal of something other than plastic items, newspapers and aluminum cans.
Thieves have stolen more than 150 curbside recycling bins in Brownsville.
The Brownsville Herald reported Sunday that the nonprofit group Healthy Communities of Brownsville organized the city-funded project in January. Items are being recycled from about 750 homes.
Director Rose Timmer says she’s not sure what has happened to the missing bins. Timmer has checked with a flea market and with Brownsville recyclers but so far has no clues about who took the bins or why.
The recycling bins were purchased with city funds.
