12 Injured After Vehicle Rearends Hayride Trailer in Louisiana

A dozen people were injured Friday in a wreck during a Halloween hayride.

Louisiana State Police a Mazda CX-6 SUV ran into the back of a trailer being used in the hayride along La. 1024 in Livingston Parish.

The trailer, with about 20 children, was being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle driven by 37-year-old Ashley Posey of Denham Springs. Police say the trailer wasn’t properly lit. It’s illegal to drive an off-road vehicle on a Louisiana road and to drive one along a road shoulder more than 30 minutes after sunset.

Officials say an adult man riding on the front utility rack of the Honda all-terrain vehicle was taken by helicopter to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with “moderate” injuries, while 11 children were treated at hospitals for minor injuries.

Police say the accident happened just before 9 p.m, when 33-year-old Victoria Farr of Denham Springs rear-ended the trailer.

Posey was ticketed for illegal operation of an off-road vehicle and lack of tail lamps. Farr was ticketed for not wearing a safety belt and not having a child properly restrained.
