Louisiana Parish to Get Floodwall
Golden Meadow is slated for a number of projects in the coming year, including floodwall improvements and development of a skate park.
Mayor Joey Bouziga tells The Courier that bids for the next phase of improvements to a floodwall along La. 1 are set to go out in February. The floodwall helps keep out waters from Bayou Lafourche during high tide and storms. He says work on the project could take about six months.
“If you didn’t have that wall, you’d have water there nearly every day just about,” he said. “We need it. The town really does need it.”
A $1.4 million grant from the state will be used to pay for the project, Bouziga said. The town chipped in about $150,000.
Bouziga also hopes to move forward with plans for a skate park in Oak Ridge Park, located off La. 3235.
The parish set aside $125,000 in its 2015 budget for the project, which is still in the design phase.
Bouziga said the skate park is needed because the town doesn’t allow skateboarding on its streets.
“They always have the excuse that they don’t have anywhere to go,” he said. “We’re trying to find a place for them to go.”
Another project Bouziga is looking forward to is creating a turning lane on La. 1 that will make it easier to access government offices on Jervis Drive.
Bouziga said money for that project will come from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
