Med-Mal Report Presented to Miss. Legislature
Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale recently presented a report on the affordability and availability of medical malpractice insurance in the state of Mississippi to the state Legislature.
House Bill 2, which passed during the Third Extraordinary Session of the Mississippi Legislature, required the Mississippi Department of Insurance (MDoI) to gather information on the number of Mississippi practicing physicians who are not able to obtain medical malpractice insurance and to make recommendations concerning the establishment of an actuarially-sound joint underwriting medical malpractice association.
MDoI mailed questionnaires to physicians practicing in Mississippi, of which 2,178 were completed and returned to the Department by the cutoff date.
A copy of the report, entitled “Report on Affordability and Availability of Medical Malpractice Insurance in the State of Mississippi”, is available on the Internet at http://www.doi.state.ms.us/medmalavailabilityreport.pdf
