IIANC Donates $25,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) presented the American Red Cross, Triangle Area Chapter with a $25,000 donation this week for the Disaster Relief Fund to help victims of Hurricane Isabel and other disasters.
“The Red Cross is very grateful to the Independent Insurance Agents of N.C. for their financial support to help victims of Hurricane Isabel rebuild their lives,” stated Barry Porter, executive director of the Triangle Area Chapter. “The Red Cross recovery efforts have resulted in $2.7 million in expenses to provide shelter, meals, relief supplies and financial assistance to disaster victims in North Carolina this past month. More donations are needed as we continue to help people more quickly than donations are being received.”
“Hurricane Isabel devastated parts of North Carolina and many are still struggling to recover from significant losses,” added Don Evans, president, Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina. “The American Red Cross has a long, reputable history of helping people in need, and we are pleased to be able to support their critical work.”
In all, nearly 2,000 North Carolina households have already received financial, health or mental health assistance from the Red Cross. The Disaster Relief fund has paid for the preparation and serving of nearly 607,000 meals and snacks, purchased 7.088 clean-up kits, and nearly 2,000 comfort kits for families in North Carolina alone. Outreach teams have made 1,450 contacts with families coping with the emotions, stress and health challenges related to recovering from the storm.
