Ky. Agents to be Sentenced for Insurance Fraud

According to the Fraud Investigation Division of the Kentucky Office of Insurance, two individuals have been convicted of committing fraudulent insurance acts.

Mark A. Calitri, 34, of Richmond was found guilty of two counts of fraudulent insurance acts over $300. Devon S. Taylor, 29, of Latonia was charged with one count of fraudulent insurance acts over $300 and one count of complicity to commit fraudulent insurance acts over $300. Both pleaded guilty in Madison Circuit Court on Jan. 23.

According to court documents, Calitri received $5,076 from a customer to obtain insurance coverage and failed to use the funds to purchase insurance for the full policy period. To reportedly prevent the policy from canceling, Calitri and Taylor (an employee) knowingly prepared and presented an application to a lender to pay a premium of $5,892 for an insurance policy knowing that the application contained false, incomplete and misleading information.

Calitri’s sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 19 while Taylor’s sentencing will be April 1. The maximum penalty is imprisonment for not more than five years; a fine of not more than $10,000, or both imprisonment and a fine on each count, for a total of 10 years imprisonment and a $20,000 fine for each defendant.

Calitri has surrendered his agent’s license.
