Ga. Commissioner Named Liaison to Hague Conference
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) recently announced that Georgia Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine has been named the NAIC liaison to the Hague Conference.
In this role he will attend Hague Conventions throughout the year that focus on different aspects of international law and insurance issues. Oxendine, who attended the Hague Convention on Private International Law last December, has become increasingly involved in international issues, with particular focus on the enforcement of foreign judgments.
“We value Commissioner Oxendine’s contributions on the international front, and he is ideally suited for this role with the Hague,” said Ernst Csiszar, NAIC president and South Carolina Director of Insurance. “He’s also been named to serve on the International Insurance Relations Committee, so the NAIC will be looking to him for increased insight and to help the membership respond to key international issues going forward.”
With Oxendine’s increased role internationally, he will step aside as chair of the Reinsurance Task Force, a position he has held for four years. Maine Insurance Superintendent Alessandro Iuppa, who has recently served as vice chair of the Reinsurance Task Force, will take over as chair, with Oxendine becoming vice chair.
The Hague Conference is an intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to work for the progressive unification of the rules of private international law. The principal method used to achieve this goal is the negotiation and drafting of multilateral treaties, which are called Hague Conventions, and are held at various times during a given year.
