Registration Deadline Updated for All Hurricanes

The deadline for registering with the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been extended until Dec. 31, 2004 for all four 2004 hurricanes that made landfall in Florida—Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.

Floridians who suffered damage related to one or more of the four storms should call the FEMA toll-free registration number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired. The registration line is now open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight, Eastern Standard Time.

Applicants may also register online by going to the FEMA Web site at http://www.fema.gov and clicking on the red “hot-link” button in the upper right-hand portion of the page marked “Register for Disaster Assistance Online.”

“FEMA wants to make certain all Floridians who are qualified for assistance in recovering from the effects of any of these four hurricanes are able to register for all help available to them,” said Michael Brown, Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response and head of FEMA. “They now have two ways to register, and the initial flurry of registration activity has slowed down. There should be plenty of time to register without problems.”
