Copart Files Answer to Patent Infringement Claim in Northern Ga. District Court
Copart Inc. announced that it filed an answer denying the claims set forth in the previously announced complaint filed by Manheim Services Corp. (Manheim) alleging that Copart online auction services infringe on a certain patent claimed to be owned by Manheim.
In addition to its answer, Copart asserted various affirmative defenses and made counterclaims against Manheim, including counterclaims seeking declarations of patent non-infringement, invalidity, and unenforceability. Copart also included counterclaims intended to address Manheim’s violations of the U.S. antitrust laws under the Sherman Act. Copart filed its answer, defenses, and counterclaims in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (Atlanta Division), where the case is currently pending.
Copart, founded in 1982, provides vehicle suppliers, primarily insurance companies, with a full range of services to process and sell salvage vehicles through auctions, principally to licensed dismantlers, rebuilders and used vehicle dealers.
