Crawford & Company Adjusters in Yucatan, Florida
U.S. and International Catastrophe Services Units have adjusters on-scene in the Yucatan Peninsula and throughout Florida managing claims from Hurricane Wilma. Wilma, the 12th hurricane this season, struck the Yucatan Peninsula on Friday, Oct. 21 as a deadly Category 4 storm and moved across Florida early Monday morning, Oct. 24 as a Category 3 storm.
Crawford has established catastrophe command centers in Tampa/Sarasota and Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. In addition, a management team has set up an induction center in Orlando for adjusters deployed to the area.
Crawford’s Mexican operation has also put its catastrophe response plan in motion and has deployed adjusters to the areas devastated by Wilma. Damage was heavy along the Yucatan coast with reports of flooding, downed power lines, and large amounts of debris. Many of the area’s large resort hotels and tourist attractions report damage.
In response to the unprecedented demand for catastrophe claims adjusters this hurricane season, Crawford has increased its recruiting, training, and licensing of catastrophe personnel. Crawford’s in-house training facility, Crawford University, has implemented an expedited version of its catastrophe training classes.
“There is no question that this year’s record-breaking hurricane season is stretching the resources of the entire insurance industry,” said Tom Crawford, president and CEO of Crawford & Company. “I don’t think that any company in the industry could have been prepared for the amount of claims we’re seeing this year. However, Crawford is committed to having the best catastrophe response unit in the industry and to providing our customers the excellent service they expect, and despite all the obstacles, I think we’re meeting that goal.”
