Miss. Medicaid Fraud Investigations Result in One Arrest, One Guilty Plea
Attorney General Jim Hood has announced the result of two investigations in Jackson, Miss. by the Medicaid Fraud Unit of the Attorney General’s Office.
On May 11, Sara Delphine Williams of Smithdale, Miss. was arrested on eight counts of embezzlement of funds from a vulnerable adult, according to officials. The eight counts involved $19,098.79 in funds owned by a resident of the Mississippi State Hospital, Whitfield, Miss.
The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit presented evidence to the Pike County Grand Jury in May and a true bill was returned May 10. Williams was arrested by investigators with the Attorney General’s Office and turned over to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office May 11. Bond was set at $5,000. Williams was arraigned May 12 in the Circuit Court of Pike County, Miss.
On May 11, Rosie Johnson of Purvis, Miss., a Licensed Practical Nurse, pled guilty, was sentenced and fined in Lamar County Justice Court to one count of Falsification of Medical Records and one count of Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult. The investigation showed that Johnson failed to perform CPR for a resident at Adventist Health Care in Lumberton. Johnson then falsely documented in the resident’s record that CPR was performed.
“Stealing money from our elderly and lying on medical records are crimes that will be discovered in time and the violators will be punished,” Hood said. “I hope that by continuing to make public these offenses against our elderly will encourage citizens to report these type of crimes and to discourage potential criminals.”
