Miss. Reports on Successful Mediation Sessions
As of May 15, the Mississippi Insurance Department reports there have been 2,222 mediation requests as part of its Hurricane Katrina Mediation Program, with the success rate now at 85 percent.
More than 350 scheduled mediations were settled before their conference date. In addition, the American Arbitration Association has increased both the number of mediations per day and the number of mediation conferences held per week. Now there are approximately 400 mediations being held per month.
Those numbers could increase as the department continues to secure more locations at which to hold mediation conferences, a MID spokesman said.
