Florida Job Site Sweep Results in Three Workers’ Comp Arrests
Job site inspections in St. Lucie County, Fla. have resulted in the arrests of three individuals and the issuance of 15 Cease and Desist orders for unauthorized workers and two citations of $2,500 for unlicensed contracting.
The Department of Financial Services coordinated with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, St. Lucie County Licensing and Pt. St. Lucie Licensing to conduct July 18 job site inspections. Twenty investigators were deployed in the area covering North Hutchinson Island to PSL. Each team made an arrest and citations were issued.
There were 37 employees checked for employing minors on a construction site. One case was made for employing an under aged person.
The following individuals were arrested by DFS: Hermingo Gonzalez, working without workers’ comp; Alejandro Cardova, working without workers’ comp; and Leoncio Arze, working without worker’s comp.
These are third degree felonies punishable by five years in prison
This sweep is a reflection of a combined effort between State and local agencies to combat construction fraud in South Florida.
