One At Large in N.C. Insurance Fraud Case, One Arrested
North Carolina investigators are searching for an alleged co-conspirator in a staged auto accident fraud scheme.
Assia Benabbou, 31, of 3101 Exacta Ln., Raleigh, N.C., was arrested on charges of obtaining property under false pretense in an insurance fraud case. Her alleged co-conspirator, Husam Doulati, 35, of 8907 Bucksport Rd., Raleigh, is at large and wanted.
Benabbou was arrested around 6 a.m. today at her home; she was processed at the Wake County Jail. She faces felony charges that hold the potential for active prison time if convicted.
The two are accused of staging an auto accident and allegedly filing a claim for more than $5,000 with Progressive Mutual Insurance Company. The company paid the claim but a tip to the Department of Insurance led to a criminal investigation.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Doulati is asked to contact the Department’s Investigations Division at (919) 807-6840.
