2 Dorm Fires in 2 Days Prompts 24-Hour Fire Alert at University of Tenn.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office has ordered the University of Tennessee to begin a 24-hour fire alert and watch at a dormitory hit by two fires on consecutive days.
University spokeswoman Karen Collins says four law enforcement officers will be in Humes Hall at all times.
The Knoxville Fire Department responded to calls Monday and Tuesday after fires in a fifth floor lounge area and the third floor of the west wing.
No one was reported injured Tuesday, but three people were taken to the hospital Monday for treatment and then released. The dorm houses 518 women.
Investigators said Tuesday it looked like someone set fire to a bulletin board on the third floor.
A chair caught fire Monday. Officials said the blazes are “suspicious.”
