Disney World Making Animal Kingdom Roller Coaster Safer
Walt Disney World is making safety changes to an Animal Kingdom roller coaster because an employee died after she was struck by one of the ride’s cars last year.
Disney is changing the entry and exit areas of Primeval Whirl by installing sensor mats in a restricted-access area where 63-year-old Karen Price fell and hit her head on Nov. 24. She died a few days later.
The mats will shut down the ride if a person sets foot there. Bold striping is being added to mark the loading and unloading zones.
Spokeswoman Kim Prunty says the accident led the company “to consider additional safety enhancements.”
Prunty says the work shouldn’t disrupt the ride.
