Weather Service Reports North Carolina Tornado Damage
A weather service official says witnesses reported seeing a tornado on the ground over the weekend north of the town of Shelby, North Carolina, and there are reports of downed trees and a damaged barn.
National Weather Service meteorologist Neil Dixon said April 19 he had reports that a barn was partially collapsed near Fallston in Cleveland County. Dixon said the twister was spotted about 8:20 p.m. on radar and was spawned in severe thunderstorms that came as a cold front moved through the area.
Tornado-like wind also was reported in Lincolnton about 8:45 p.m., where some houses were damaged and trees blown down. He said it was unclear whether the home damage was from trees or winds.
