Sinkhole Opens in Florida Neighborhood, 20 Residents Evacuated
Volusia County, Florida officials say they are evacuating about 20 homes in DeBary after a sinkhole opened in a neighborhood.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Volusia County Fire Services evacuated homes in the DeBary Golf and Country Club subdivision on Aug. 26, and families were taken to a Catholic church that was being used as a shelter.
According to a news release, city engineers were scheduled to evaluate the sinkhole on Aug. 27.
Earlier this week, officials ferried people by boat from homes in the city, where some streets were under 4 feet of water because of Tropical Storm Fay.
