Fire Damage to Kentucky Horse Barns Estimated at $1 Million
Kentucky State Fair Board President Harold Workman is estimating the damage from an early-morning fire at the fairgrounds horse barns to be more than $1 million.
Workman says a trucker driving by on Interstate 65 spotted the fire, and a security guard also heard fire alarms going off and reported the blaze at about 2 a.m. EDT Tuesday.
There were no injuries, but four horse barns were destroyed at the Louisville site. Barns had been cleared of dozens of horses that competed in the World Championship Saddle Horse Show just days earlier.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
