Mississippi Grand Jury Indicts 9 in Auto Chop Shop Probe
A Prentiss County, Mississippi grand jury has indicted nine people on charges related an investigation into a chop shop.
Sheriff Randy Tolar told The Daily Corinthian that the investigation found several incidents of insurance fraud in which the vehicle owners were allegedly a part of a scheme to report their vehicles stolen and then collect the insurance.
Tolar said at least one whole vehicle was recovered and a multitude of auto parts were recovered that was related to the alleged insurance fraud. He said several other recovered vehicles had mutilated identification numbers.
The nine face a variety of charges including insurance fraud, conspiracy and operating a chop shop. Tolar said all nine posted bond this past week.
No trial dates have been set.
