Georgia Firefighters Getting New Training Facility
Construction is underway for a new $1.6 million fire training building at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.
Butch Beach, the training center’s deputy director of training, says firefighters use so-called “burn buildings” to practice putting out fires in a safe, controlled environment.
The training center<s old burn building was condemned last year because of safety concerns.
Patrice Kerner, the training center’s deputy director of operations, says firefighters completing the center’s basic training travel have been traveling to facilities that have been modified for their practice burns.
Fire Academy Director David Wall says the new building will allow trainers to recreate residential, industrial, commercial and multi-family structure fire situations.
