Alabama Jury Awards $2.6M to Patient Ignored by Home Health Service
A jury has awarded $2.65 million to a man who was stranded in his bed for four days by home health care workers.
Fifty-five-year-old Nathan Ballard sued Gentiva Health Services USA and two former employees after they failed to show up at his home between March 18 and March 22, 2005.
He has Cerebral Palsy and requires personal care to maintain his independence.
Ballard’s lead attorney Clint Mountain says he’s happy with the outcome.
According to the lawsuit filed in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court, Ballard could not get out of bed for four days. He was able to make enough noise to alert neighbors who called 911.
He was hospitalized and treated for dehydration and injuries to his hip, shoulder and leg caused by the neglect.
