West Virginia Flood Victims Receive $2 Million

Federal disaster grants totaling nearly $2 million have been approved to help businesses and residents slammed by storms and flooding in southern West Virginia last month.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the aid includes $1.7 million for temporary housing and home repairs.

A third disaster recovery center was scheduled to open Tuesday at the National Guard Armory in Welch. Disaster relief centers already have been opened in Logan and Wyoming counties.

The centers are operated by FEMA and the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The Obama administration approved a disaster declaration for Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming counties after severe storms on June 12 caused flooding and mudslides.
