Tennesse City Joins Suit Against Contractor
The Shelbyville City Council has voted to join the city utility division in filing suit against a Chattanooga contractor over the collapse of part of a large stormwater flume.
The Shelbyville Times-Gazette reported council members voted last Thursday to pursue a claim against Mayse Construction Company of Chattanooga.
Company president Todd Mayse was not in his office Friday and a message was left for him, seeking comment.
After torrential rain the first weekend in May 2009, the ground caved in around the flume, which the Shelbyville Power, Water and Sewarage system claims the contractor damaged in 2008 during a construction project.
The utility requested restitution from Mayse Construction, which officials say denied the claim.
