Tennessee City’s Red Light Cameras Earn $1 Million in 2 Years
Cameras trained on red lights in one Tennessee city have issued more than 10,000 tickets and brought in $1 million in revenue in less than two years.
The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reported that the cameras, installed late in 2008, reduced the number of wrecks at some intersections.
According to police statistics, the number of angle crashes fell from 72 in 2008 to 64 in 2009, when the first cameras were installed in May. There were 49 through October of this year.
Clarksville Police Chief Al Ansley says it’s too early to draw broad conclusions, but the number of crashes does appear to be down since the cameras were put in.
