Woman Awarded $1.14 Million After Atlanta Sidewalk Fall
A Fulton County, Georgia jury has awarded $1.14 million in damages to a woman who fell after getting her heel caught in loose concrete on a downtown Atlanta sidewalk.
Don Edwards, a lawyer for 35-year-old Miriam Nichole Hancock, said his client severely injured her ankle and needed several surgeries after the accident.
Edwards said the verdict was handed down against the city of Atlanta for failing to fix the sidewalk problem, which he said the city should have been aware of.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the jury awarded Hancock $2,499 in damages for medical expenses, $125,166 for lost earnings and $1.01 million for pain and suffering.
