Family of Slain Middle Tennessee State Player Sues for $20 Million
The family of a slain Middle Tennessee State University basketball player has filed a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit against the young woman accused in her death.
According to The Daily News Journal, the parents of Tina Stewart sued 18-year-old Shanterrica Madden, Stewart’s roommate.
Stewart, a junior from Memphis, was stabbed to death following a fight at their apartment March 2. The case has been turned over to a grand jury.
David Raybin, the Stewart family attorney, told the paper the Circuit Court suit seeks $10 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages.
Joe Brandon Jr., Madden’s attorney, said he became aware of the lawsuit through the media and had not seen it. In court, he has said his client, also from Memphis, acted in self-defense.
