Savannah, Ga. Considers Tougher Laws after Dog Attacks
Officials in Savannah say they’re considering ways to strengthen animal control ordinances after dogs attacked children at a playground, severely injuring a 7-year-old boy.
Two dogs attacked several children at the east Savannah playground on June 21. Authorities say one dog bit 7-year-old Javon Roberson’s face with such ferocity that bystanders had to use bricks to beat the animal unconscious. WTOC-TV reports that Javon has been released from a hospital, but part of his face is paralyzed and more plastic surgery is planned.
Savannah-Chatham Animal Control Director Brenda Boulware said officials are considering raising the amount of insurance some dog owners must carry.
The Savannah Morning News reports that officials are also considering a new ordinance that would give animal control officers more options when deeming dogs vicious.
