West Virginia Grants Tax Exemption to Storm Victims
West Virginians hit by major flooding and extensive wind damage caused by recent storms are getting some state help.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has signed an executive order providing tax relief to residents in counties currently under a state of emergency from the storms.
The order suspends sales, service and use taxes on purchase of certain building construction supplies, mobile homes, house trailers and modular homes to help restore and reconstruct storm-damaged properties.
The order is extended to residents in Doddridge, Harrison, Lincoln, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Ritchie, Taylor and Wayne counties.
Tomblin’s office says tax exempt purchases can be made between March 12 and June 12. Those seeking to make a tax exempt purchase must file an exemption certificate.
