Trucks Repeatedly Stuck on Rail Tracks in Georiga Town
Heavy trucks are repeatedly getting stuck on the steep grade of a busy railroad intersection in downtown Statham, Ga.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that a truck hauling seven vehicles became stuck on the tracks Tuesday, the latest in a series of such incidents in the northeast Georgia town.
Statham Police Chief Steve Martin says at least one truck gets stuck at the spot ever three or four weeks. He said a truck hauling antique cars became stuck and was hit by a train last year.
The police chief says the crossing is a public safety issue. He said there’s typically a time delay in reporting cases when vehicles become stuck, and he worries that police might not be able to warn trains in time to stop them.
