Headphones May Be Factor in West Virginia Train Death
Police say headphones likely played a role in the death of a Charleston, W.Va., man who was hit by a train.
Charleston police tell media outlets that investigators believe 31-year-old Ezra Shawn Mullins was wearing earbud-style headphones and didn’t hear the train until it was too late.
A CSX Corp. train hit Mullins Sunday afternoon as he was walking on the tracks in the city’s Kanawha City area. Mullins died on impact. The train dragged his body about a half a mile before it stopped across the highway from the University of Charleston’s entrance.
The conductor told police that Mullins appeared to be wearing headphones.
