Florida Woman’s Dress Catches Fire From Cigarette
Authorities say an 80-year-old central Florida woman sustained serious burns after dropping a lit cigarette on her dress.
The DeLand Fire Department reports that firefighters responded to the woman’s home Monday evening and found her with burns covering 65 percent of her upper body.
The woman, whose name wasn’t immediately released, told rescuers she had dropped a cigarette in her lap. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and DeLand Fire Department will investigate the fire’s cause.
