Devil-Masked Thief Falls Off Cliff, Breaks Back
Authorities say an Alabama man accused of wearing a devil mask as a disguise during a robbery spree is now in custody after falling off a cliff and seriously injuring himself.
Al.com reports that the suspect broke his back in the fall and has had one of his legs amputated.
The 38-year-old Remlap man is accused of robbing several businesses in Jefferson and Blount counties during the past two weeks.
Police say he burst into a Winn Dixie Friday night, armed with a rifle and wearing the devil mask, making off with cash from the register.
Later that night, police say he robbed a convenience store. Authorities say a 53-year-old customer walking into that store just after the holdup was shot and remains hospitalized with critical injures.
