Georgia Construction Company Receives OSHA Citations and Fines

December 6, 2012

Federal officials have cited and fined an eastern Georgia company for safety hazards after an employee died on the job in August.

The Augusta Chronicle Tuesday reported Two States Construction Co. in Thomson received five safety citations from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, a branch of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Authorities investigated the company following the death of a 61-year-old employee in August.

The newspaper reports a piece of equipment weighing between 500 and 600 pounds hit the man.

Authorities say employees were exposed to crush hazards, and a 5-ton piece of equipment was not inspected after it had been installed and modified.

The company has paid a fine of $13,050, and representatives were not available for comment Tuesday.

Thomson is about 30 miles east of Augusta.
