Thousands Sign Up for Mississippi City’s Storm Warnings
Thousands of people have signed up for Olive Branch’s new telephone notification system, and officials expect more to use the feature as spring storms begin.
The Commercial Appeal reports city officials bought in the CodeRED system in the fall. More than 7,000 numbers have been entered into the general notification database by the public.
Almost 1,400 people have signed up for the storm warning feature. The city has used the system for hazardous weather eight times.
Mayor Sam Rikard says each severe weather event causes a flurry of new subscribers as friends talk to each other about the notification system.
