Bill Would Help Visually Impaired Mississippi Truckers
Mississippi lawmakers are trying to make it easier for truckers with only one good eye to earn a living.
The House passed House Bill 441 on Monday. It says the state could issue a commercial driver’s license to a person who has impaired vision in one eye, as long as the good eye has vision measuring 20/40 or better.
House Transportation Committee Chairman Robert Johnson, of Natchez, says Mississippi already has about 50 commercial drivers with only one good eye apiece. The proposed change would help them keep their licenses.
The bill passed 111-5 and goes to the Senate.
