Insurance Expected to Cover School Relocation Due to Sinkhole
Unicoi County Schools Director Denise Brown says she’s confident the cost of relocating a Tennessee elementary school threatened by a sinkhole is covered by insurance.
Brown told the Johnson City Press the contract through Risk Management Trust specifies the carrier will pay for relocation while anything is done to or decided about Love Chapel Elementary School. Brown said she had not heard back from insurance underwriter Travelers.
The county school board decided to group a dozen portable classrooms on district property for the next school year.
Love Chapel was closed after a sinkhole opened in August. It was 120 feet deep and grew to 25 feet in diameter.
Students were dispersed among other county schools for the current school year.
