North Carolina Highway Patrol Stops Free Crash Reports

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has stopped providing free wreck reports at its county offices.

The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported that local offices were told about the change late last month. First Sgt. Jeff Gordon says the patrol is following orders from the Division of Motor Vehicles.

DMV said Friday that while crash reports remain available, it’s required by federal law to remove any personal information and it’s charging a $5 dollar fee as state law requires.

The motor vehicle agency says while it will issue only certified copies of crash reports, law enforcement agencies can issue copies of their own reports.
