Batteries Stolen From 21 Parked Georgia School Buses

August 24, 2013

Henry County sheriff’s officials say they’re searching for two men accused of stealing $5,000 worth of batteries from parked school buses.

Authorities said Tuesday that 21 school bus batteries have been stolen from buses parked at several schools in the Georgia district beginning Aug. 4 – the day before school began.

Henry County Schools Director of Transportation Cliff Sherhouse says aside from essentially stealing from children who rely on school buses, the thefts cost the district a lot of time and money when the budget is already tight.

Officials say one battery was even stolen from a bus that was parked at its driver’s house.

Officials say scrap metal yards should be on the lookout for people trying to exchange batteries for cash.
