Florida Man Gets 7 Years in New Jersey Insurance Fraud Scam
A Florida man who worked for a now-defunct southern New Jersey construction company has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for his role in a home repairs scam.
The attorney general’s office’s insurance fraud division says Marcin Gradziel of Lake Worth, Fla., told homeowners in Gloucester and Camden counties they could get free siding and roofing if they’d suffered damage from hail storms.
The homeowners weren’t aware they’d suffered damage, but an investigation determined that Gradziel visited the homes and damaged the properties before insurance adjusters visited. He then filed fraudulent insurance claims.
The 34-year-old Gradziel pleaded guilty in August to insurance fraud. A co-defendant has also pleaded guilty, and the company they worked for, Precision Builders of Voorhees, has ceased operation and paid more than $68,000 in restitution.
