Pricy Underwear Goes Missing at Kentucky Victoria’s Secret
Someone has been secreting things away from a high-end store in Bowling Green, Ky.
The manager of Victoria’s Secret in the Greenwood Mall reported that more than $8,000 in pricy undergarments were stolen from the store over the course of a few days this month.
The Daily News reported that the first incident happened Oct. 11, when 150 pairs of panties worth $2,175 were stolen from a display drawer. Bowling Green police say the second incident happened between Oct. 12 and Oct. 15, when 50 bras and 200 pairs of panties valued at $5,860 were reported missing.
Police say they couldn’t process the scene because the store had been open for business and cleaned within the time frame of the theft.
Some of those items were returned to the store for store credit, according to an Oct. 15 police report.
Bowling Green Police spokesman Ronnie Ward says the store had no video surveillance and no arrests have been made.
All the items were fairly close to a store exit, the report stated. But with no video surveillance in the store, identifying a suspect was impossible.
Regardless of whether Victoria’s Secret prosecutes, Ward said police do whatever a victim needs to have done.
“We devote whatever time they need in apprehension or processing the paperwork,” Ward said.
The National Retail Federation refers to professional shoplifting as Organized Retail Crime, and according to an NRF survey conducted among 77 retail loss prevention executives from May 1 to May 21, the problem doesn’t end with shoplifting.
About 77.8 percent of companies say they have experienced gift card or store merchandise credit fraud, the survey said.
