West Virginia Recycling Plant Resolves Violations Over Fatal Fire

Federal regulators are resolving workplace safety and environmental violations at a Hancock County metals recycling plant where three workers died in a fire and explosion in 2010.

The Charleston Gazette reports that West Virginia-based AL Solutions will pay $100,000 in fines to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and $97,000 to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The settlement was announced Thursday.

The company operated the facility in New Cumberland where an explosion ripped through a concrete building, killing three workers inside in December 2010.

Those killed were 39-year-old Jeffrey Scott Fish, 38-year-old James E. Fish and Steven Swain, 27.
