Georgia Tornadoes Caused Estimated $6M in Damage
The Georgia Insurance Commissioner says consumers have reported multimillion dollar insured losses from a storm that included several tornadoes.
Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said in a statement Monday that reported damage from last week’s storm is estimated to be roughly $6 million.
Hudgens says consumers should contact their insurance agents immediately if their homes or cars sustained damage. Hudgens says hail damage to vehicles is typically covered by the comprehensive or collision portion of car insurance policies.
Hudgens says consumers should cover damaged areas of their homes with tarp or plywood to protect property from further damage.
The commissioner says consumers can call a helpline at 1-800-656-2298 with questions about filing claims.
