Mississippi Construction Worker Dies A Week After 30-Foot Fall

A construction worker critically injured when he fell while working on the second-story roof of an Ocean Springs, Miss., home has died.

Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus said Gerald Moran, 42, died Tuesday at Ocean Springs Hospital, where he had been comatose and in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit for about a week. Moran had suffered brain and spinal cord injuries.

Moran was injured when he fell 25-30 feet from atop scaffolding while working on the roof of the home on Nov. 3.

The home is at the former site of Del Castle-Legate Place. The once-palatial residence also was known as the Al Capone home, reputed to be a hideout where the Chicago mobster based his rum-running operations during Prohibition. The classical Spanish-style home originally was also known as the Lee house and later as Casa Flores.

The home was demolished in 2007. A museum was planned on the site but a new home is being built instead.
