Judges to Offer Views on Tort Reform at Alliance’s Calif. Meeting
A group of judges will give their perspectives on the issue of tort reform during one of the panel discussions that will highlight the 81st Annual Meeting of the Alliance of American Insurers. The meeting will be held April 27-29 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad, Calif., just north of San Diego.
Professor Anthony Sebok of the Brooklyn Law School will moderate the panel on Tort Reform: A View From the Bench. Panelists include Paul Niemeyer, Circuit Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; William Schwarzer, Senior U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of California; Stephen Markman, Michigan Supreme Court Justice; and Jess Dickinson, who was elected in November to the Mississippi Supreme Court. His term begins in Jan. 2004.
Keynote speakers at this year’s meeting are former Secretary of Education and Drug Czar William Bennett, who will address Corporate Ethics and the Public Trust, and former Presidential advisor David Gergen, who will give the political keynote address.
In addition, Financial Services Roundtable President and CEO Steve Bartlett will face off with NAIC President and Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Mike Pickens on a panel that will look at state versus federal regulation of insurance.
