Builders Sell Out Sessions on ‘Minimizing Construction Risk’ at IRMI Conference Nov. 7-10
With construction defect litigation a continuing threat to home builders nationwide, some 750 attendees have sold out two sessions on minimizing construction risk at the upcoming 25th annual IRMI Construction Risk Conference taking place next week at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
In the current environment of litigation, prudent builders will have policies and procedures in place that focus on prevention to reduce the risk of common defects, according to Don Neff, construction risk management expert and president of La Jolla Pacific Ltd. of Irvine, Calif., who will present the program in back-to-back sessions on Tuesday, Nov. 8, starting at 1:30 p.m.
Neff’s presentation will offer pro-active defensive strategies throughout the pre-construction, during construction and post-construction phases of a project that cut down on the potential for future litigation, from peer review of building plans to inspections. He will also detail the top four sources of problems: water intrusion, foundations, structural framing deficiencies and common wall/acoustical assemblies.
“Our experience with tens of thousands of residential units is that builders can dramatically reduce their risk exposure by taking practical steps in all phases of construction,” said Neff. “These four areas are especially vulnerable to failure and this session will offer a variety of proven preventive strategies.”
