California State Fund Holds Ergonomics Workshop in Sacramento
California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund will be hosting a free ergonomics workshop at its Sacramento District Office on March 29-30. Ergonomics – “the science of fitting the job to the worker rather than forcing the worker to fit the job” – has contributed to reducing workplace injuries, SCIF said.
Featured speakers include State Fund’s ergonomic expert R.J. Banks. Also speaking is Chris Shulenberger, Director of Ergonomics for Clayton Group Services – a national provider of occupational, health and safety services.
All participants will receive a complimentary CD-Rom – “Ergonomics: How May We Help You?” produced by State Fund’s Banks, whose ergonomic expertise earned her the 2005 “Employee Safety Award” from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“The two day workshop explores how ergonomics minimizes the risk of office work injuries and musculoskeletal disorders,” said Banks. “Ergonomics is a useful tool that enables employers to develop a safe workplace.”
Topics covered at the workshop include:
*Understanding the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the office workplace.
*Understanding the ergonomics problem solving process.
*Applying ergonomic intervention strategies to common office problems.
*Developing a customized office ergonomics-training program.
The workshops are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days. For information, call (916) 567.4800.
