Safeway-Brand Bread Recalled after Wire Found in Loaves
Safeway Inc. has recalled a cornucopia of Safeway-brand bread after customers found pieces of wire in loaves they had purchased.
The wire was traced to a broken machine in the company’s Richmond-based bakery, said Safeway spokeswoman Jennifer Webber.
Webber said the machine is now fixed, “but we’re in the process of taking all the bread from that bakery off the shelves in our stores.”
The recall affected Safeway and Pac ‘N’ Save stores throughout Northern California, the Reno-Tahoe area and Northern Nevada.
The affected breads include those with “best before” dates up to March 17.
The brands are: Pak n’ Save Wheat, Safeway Butter Top Wheat Bread, Safeway Crushed Wheat, Safeway Super Kids, Safeway Whole Grain, Safeway Premium White, Safeway Premium Wheat, Safeway Oven Joy, Safeway Texas Toast, Pac n’ Advertisement Save White Bread, Safeway Premium White Sandwich Bread, Safeway Pan Blanco Bread, Safeway French Toasting Bread and Safeway 100 percent Wheat Bread.
