Washington Raising Some Homes over Flood Level
Thurston County, Wash. applied for more than $800,000 of the $1 million in state grants available to raise homes above flood stage.
Thurston County would use the money to elevate 37 homes near the Chehalis River at Rochester. They would be raised on new foundations two feet above flood level at no cost to low-income homeowners.
The special Community Development Block Grant program was created after December’s flooding along the Chehalis River. The deadline for applications is Sept. 30.
