New Mexico Firefighters Battle Grass Fires
New Mexico firefighters are battling two wildfires that have charred tens of thousands of acres in southern New Mexico.
State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware says officials ordered more resources for an 18,000-acre fire dubbed the Cato Fire, which is burning in grass and mesquite in a rugged area east of Roswell. The fire is 60 percent contained, but six structures are threatened.
The Pasco Fire on private land south of Lordsburg has burned about 12,000 acres of grass and brush. Ware says a ranch home threatened by the flames was evacuated.
High winds and hot temperatures have hampered firefighting efforts
